Description
The business development manager is responsible for the development and execution of the company's business plan in the US Market. This position involves developing market share and revenue growth strategies through contacting existing or potential customers to promote new sales of our Material Handling equipment.
The role will involve substantial liaison with clients, dealers and distributors to maximize sales and profitability.
This is a very exciting and wide ranging role for the right individual. Your personality and attitude are both extremely important in this position. You must show a 'can-do' attitude and energetic approach to all the work you take on.
Primary Duties and Expectations
The job responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following;
- Conduct market research to identify potential industries, accounts or individuals for sales development.
- Initiate direct contact with potential key material handling equipment users.
- Respond to all inquiries from potential clients and suppliers.
- Survey the needs of the customer base. Carefully determine client needs and wants before consulting with company and factory engineering staff to develop concepts and applications for the customer.
- Organize all proposal data for review with engineering.
- Present and document all sales proposals. Be sure to carefully document each presentation and answer any concerns that are expressed by the customer.
- Inform each potential customer about the total depth of services provided by the company.
- Follow up on all proposals. Be certain that any changes or revisions initiated by the customer are well documented.
- Upon acceptance, liaise with colleagues to ensure accurate processing of the order and inform the customer of project status from installation to completion and follow up after sales services.
- Meeting sales targets on an ongoing basis - to ensure activity levels are commensurate with the order levels required to make this a viable concern
- Reviews market analyses to determine customer needs, volume potential, pricing, be aware of and feedback market changes in the USA.
- Develop sales campaigns to accommodate company strategy and goals.
- Represents company at trade associations meetings to promote product.
- Monitor expenditure to conform to budgetary requirements.
- Prepare periodic sales report showing sales volume and potential sales.
Other Duties and Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate records and keep management informed of the status of each open project or recent sales proposals
- Maintain a high degree of communication about customer proposals with engineering and sales support staff.
Skill Requirements
- Provide effective oral and written communications to customers and company management
- Posses a thorough knowledge of general business procedures and ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients and customers.
- Skill to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, circumference, volume.
- Must be skilled in PC applications, including word processing, (MS Word), file management, project management spreadsheets, (MS Excel) and presentation software (MS power point)
- Possess the ability to perform light to medium physical work. Must have physical stamina to reach, push, lift etc.
Previous work and education Experience
The successful Business Development candidate will meet the following requirements
- Previous experience of working in materials handling is essential (knowledge of vacuum handling desirable) - training of product line will be provided (In UK initially)
- Ideally you will have proven successful technical sales and marketing experience - demonstrate ability to generate new business.
- Bachelors degree or equivalent (Business or technology related an asset)
- Valid Drivers License
Working Conditions
- Work is performed in an office environment (Garner NC 27529), or from home as well as a wide range of customer locations and facilities. Frequent air or road travel to distributor and customer locations is required
- Reporting directly to Head of Division and Directors (based in UK)
- Non-Smoking

- Competitive (Salary commensurate with experience in field of Material Handling/ Vacuum Handling)
