Developing our employees
We invest a significant amount of resources into the early stages of career development.
Our modern apprentice schemes provide engineering training that blends work experience in the company with education through local college courses.
We regularly recruit graduates for summer internships. After a comprehensive induction, interns are given real-life objectives to work to and are expected to contribute to the workings of a department from an early stage.
We use performance and development reviews to define areas where people need to improve or acquire knowledge or skills. We have clear career paths which set out the competencies people need to demonstrate if they wish to progress. To help people develop we offer a wide range of learning opportunities such as formal education and training programmes.
For continued success we need to develop our future leaders. This involves the early identification of people with potential to fill senior roles who are given opportunities to accelerate the rate at which they can gain experience and knowledge for leadership.
To develop our businesses we make significant investment in broadening our managers’ business perspective through development programmes, and mentor programmes.
